About Me

Hi! My name’s Michael and I’m a jack-of-all-trades tech generalist. At work, I build stable, flexible, cost-effective platforms that let devs write code without worrying about how it’s getting out into the world and what it’s getting up to once it’s out there. I like writing glue scripts to do anything repetitive. My perpetual goal is to automate as much of my work as possible. I mostly write scripts in Python, but I’m comfortable in a number of languages and willing to learn anything for a job. I can pinch-hit as a backend developer in Ruby or Python, and if you’re sufficiently patient, I can even write you a passably attractive frontend to go along with it. I’m a long-term resident of the AWS world; I’ve worked with a substantial number of their available services and I keep up-to-date on the latest and greatest in the AWS universe. Because I’ve spent years clicking around hunting toggles in that console, I’m a zealot for infrastructure-as-code and I’ve worked extensively with IaC tools like Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.

I try to consistently bring a positive, respectful, collaborative approach to my interactions with other people. I believe in over-communicating, ideally in writing, and pairing frequently as a way to test your own thought processes and learn from and about your coworkers. I’m a former elementary teacher, and my goals and processes as a technologist are surprisingly similar to that world: I help people get to where they need to be, and I help them move past the need for my help. Where do you need to be? How can I help?
